Lounge Chair
Trust the Triangle...
Focus: Furniture Design, Woodworking, CMF Development, Ergonomics.
Date: Spring Semester 2024
Note: The initial vision for this chair was to be to be crafted from scrap wood. Its open back element provides pressure point relief for the spine, while the triangular structure ensures both strength and comfort. The stick composition gives the chair a low weight and airy appearance, and its clever angles allow for easy nesting.
Iteration #1
As an aspiring furniture maker, I knew I wanted the assignment of having to build only one chair to be iterative, so I built 3.5 in a semester. I figured building multiples would not only help me hone my technique but also help me develop my preferences and opinions on furniture making along the way.
Iteration #2
Handmade slated seat comprised entirely of American cherry wood using half laps, bridle, and dowel joinery.
Iteration #3
Satin-finished American cherry floated over tiger maple, using aluminum hardware. The joinery includes half-lapping and brindle joints.
Iteration #4 (In Progress)
Rift cut white oak.
